Hello Bay Boys fans.

My name is Ashley Northcotte, and I am honoured to say that I am the daughter of Les Northcotte and Fred’s niece.

Whether you knew both of them well, been to a few shows or shared a conversation; you know that these two were quite the pair of characters. They were hard working, kind hearted Newfoundlanders who always shared a laugh when they were around. Most importantly, they loved nothing more than to make use of their musical talent whenever they had the chance; a true passion they both shared.

I missed the first Bay Boys vinyl and almost the second, as it was released the year I was born. It didn’t take me long to catch up on what I had missed. I quickly became one of the Bay Boys biggest fans. Watching my dad sing on stage, I was mesmerized, and no doubt, the proudest kindergartener to bring her superstar dad in to sing for her class. I instantly learned their songs by listening to their tapes every night before bed and just like that, my dad was larger than life to my brother and I.

As I got older and Les took a step back from the band, filling in on occasions, I missed going to watch him play. But the music never left. He would sing at home, play his guitar and learn new songs. Family gatherings brought the spirit of Newfoundland, and there was never a ’music-free’ moment.

Today, their music is a reminder of their success, their passion and their pride. It is something for which I will be eternally grateful. Although Fred and Les have both passed on after fighting their battles with cancer, they left us with a precious gift. I ask you to cherish it as I have, and let this website always be a testament to their hard work, their accomplishments and all the memories and good times that accompanied The Bay Boys.

On behalf of Fred and Les, I would like to thank you for your interest and your support. I would also like to say a special thank you to my fiance, Trevor Jones for his understanding and hard work in creating this website and to Percy Cutler for making their music available for future generations. All proceeds from CD sales will be donated to the Rankin Cancer Run, a charity close to both Fred and Les, where Team North Caught runs every year in their memory.

If you have any photos or fond memories of the Bay Boys, feel free to share them by e-mailing me. I would love to hear about them.

Thank you.
Warm Regards,

Ashley Northcotte
